18th century cast iron fireback (Reference 9319)
Beautiful cast iron fireback in the Louis XV style from the 18th century. A canopy, formed by a central shell, lattice work, volutes and tumbling flowers on the sides shelters a charming country scene. A young elegantly dressed woman, with a feathered hat and a shepherdess’ crook in one hand, the other supporting her back reveals her condition. She is in pregnant. and is followed by a boy with a drum and a small dog. This musical pastoral scene is placed on a pedestal, decorated with a central shell, volutes and scrolls. The composition is elegant and presents a strong relief.
