Trumeau in the Louis XVI style from the 19th century with a grisaille on marouflaged paper representing a putti scene dating from the 18th century. In a gilded frame with round flowers in the corners, the putti are busy harvesting wheat, reaping, threshing and gathering the grain, while two of them fight over a gourd of water. The lower part of the overmantel has a mirror framed with a sequence of carved and gilded friezes of pearls, curlicue foliage and topped by a scroll that links the upper and lower parts of the whole trumeau composition.
Grisaille is a monochrome painting technique similar to the “chiaroscuro” or clear-dark, that uses all the nuances of a single color to imitate marble, stone or bronze reliefs.
