Description

The rectangular shape of the frame of this mantel calls to mind the classical productions of the Louis XII and Louis XIV periods. The large Bolection molding characteristic of the Louis XIV style that runs along the jambs and the entablature gives its name to this type of mantel. On either side, other more discreet moldings unfold. The jambs support a rather high entablature that is adorned with a central red marble inlayed rectangular motif carved with diamond facets. This striking detail gives its originality to the composition. The inlay is framed in a series of moldings and flanked at either end by flutings like those of an acroterion.
