A very rare variety of Saint Maximin marble enlightens the very architectural design of this antique mantel from the mid 19th century. Typical of the Capucine model, the composition is dominated by straight lines with straight jambs supporting a plain entablature. But here the jambs are fluted pilasters rising to capitals adorned with diamond carved squares. The front is carved with molded panels. A recessed frame surrounds the hearth opening.
This mantel pairs with item #1539.
