In very good condition.

This pair of japanese style vases in faience with the gilt bronze frame was made in 1884 by G. Gréau. The vases are signed and dated.
While on one of the vases are represented birds, carps adorn the second. The two vases are also adorned with curved flowers, following both the shape of the vase but also the taste for the undulation and suppleness of the line inherited from the Japanese vogue. The patterns of flora and fauna are typical of Japonisme which spread at the end of the 19th century in the European decorative arts.
With the various exchanges that took place between France and Japan from 1858, the year of the signing of a commercial treaty, and the contribution of the World's Fairs, true international encounters, the West discovers the Japanese art that provides to the artists some new patterns and a new aesthetic, of which these two vases testify.
