This over mantel mirror is a refined example of Louis XVI elegance.
Two thin columns, each crowned with an Antique style urn frame a richly carved pediment. A cornice, adorned with an egg-and-dart frieze supports a medallion with a women’s profile which hangs from a knot heavy with flowers. Below the cornice, hangs a floral swag that is reflected in the mirror.
This mirror takes its inspiration from the Neo-Classical style decorative elements popular in the reign of Louis XVI. The combination of Antique and pastoral motifs is typical of this style.
