This small antique fireback was realized in the 19th century. In a scalloped Louis XV style frame, Minerva is shown in feet. She wears her helmet and supports his spear and shield, which is his usual attributes.
Minerva is the Roman goddess of War and Wisdom, identified with the Greek goddess Athena.
