Louis XVI style panelled room created in 1915 with beautiful Coromandel lacquer panels representing foliage and birds in an Oriental style. A Louis XVI style fireplace mantel with bronzes that is being cleaned, will soon complete this item.
There are many types of engraving on lacquer but the most important found in Europe, at least in numbers, is what is known as "Coromandel laquer". Coromandel is an area of the east coast of India between the Godava River and Nagapatnam. Contrary to what its name implies, Coromandel lacquer does not come from this region but from China.
