Levanto marble
Red Levanto marble is a an Italian marble that used to used a lot in furniture and decoration and has is rare. Although a red marble with a Breche-like aspect, it is more or less green and more or less veined white. A remarkable fireplace mantle was created in this marble for the Dog antechamber in the Versailles Palace. Geologists categorize Levanto not as marble but as serpentinite.
