Additional information
The first sculpted and mercury gilded bronze locks were made in the 17th centruy. They were created by famous locksmiths like CAFFIERI, DELAFOSSE, GOUTHIERE or MESSONIER to decorate the elaborate appartments of the Versailles palace. Their pieces were works of art some of which are in display at the BRICARD Museum. Created in 1782 at the time of Louis XVI, the Locksmith-King-BRICARD company, now has over 30,000 antique models in its archives and to the present day can, by order, cast, carve, gold-plate and assemble locks, hasps, espagnolettes, keys, buttons, levers, decorative plates and any other of the rare pieces that have been preciously preserved.
