Bolection red Griotte marble mantel (Reference 1176)

The Bolection mantel is specific to the reigns of Louis XIII and Louis XIV. Of rectangular shape, it is adorned with a large molding that runs along the jambs and entablature. Red Griotte marble was a great favorite for fireplace mantels.

Additional information

Red Griotte was the marble favored for the royal apartments of the 18th century. Its most prestigious use was for the fireplace mantel in the Office of King Louis XIV in Versailles, and was considered to be the most luxurious of all marbles until the end of the 19th century.
