Sold item - Flambé glazed tile mantel signed Greber (Reference 9334)
This flambé glazed tile mantel is typical of the Gréber workshop, as the signature on the piece implies.
The artist has created a hooded mantel, inspired by the past, and covered with ceramic tiles and a wooden frame. The hood rests upon a high cornice equally underlined with wood and decorated on each corner with a double vertical line of grape leaves. Straight jambs decorated with rosette and diamond motifs rise up on either side of the mantel, which presents an arched hearth opening highlighted by a frieze of pearls.
Two types of tiles were used here: large squares for the hood and cornice, and brick shaped ones for the mantel.
This Gréber model of hooded mantel is rare.

Additional information
Ceramists from father to son, the Gréber family was established in the North of France. The founding father of the company, Johann Gréber settled in the region of Beauvais around 1866 and the company he created became one of the great names in ceramics until 1970.
The production date of this mantel indicates it can be attributed to Charles Gréber director of the Beauvais atelier from 1899 to 1933.
