Levanto marble Louis XV surround (Reference 1224)
Beautiful Louis XV style “three shell” mantel in Levanto marble from the 19th century. A classic of the Rococo style in which the play of curves and counter-curves created precise and symmetrical compositions. The jambs are canted and delicately molded and curved. They rise up to scrolled shells. The rounded entablature is underlined by a molding that runs down to the baseboard from two volutes that support a large central upside-down shell. The three shells give their name to this type of design. The copper insert is included.
Origin : Lyon, France, 19th century.
