Gilded trumeau with medallions and putti (Reference 9388)
At the center of a rectangular mirror surrounded by a frame carved with a string of motifs, is a second oval beveled mirror. Topped with putti and adorned with scrolls of acanthus leaves, what distinguishes this overmantel is the gilded decor that encroaches upon its mirror: three medallions of women profiles set with rows of pearls linked with trimmings ended with pompoms. The opulence of this decoration and the use of a wide range of decorative motifs is in the spirit of the Second Empire grandiose decors.
