Wood fireplace from Brittany (Reference 1300)
Very original mantel made with elements of a closed bed from the 18th century. A symbol of old Brittany the closed bed used here was made of beech and chesnut wood and associated with wrought iron elements from the 19th century.
The closed bed elements are easy to distinguish because of the quality of their carving (small bobbin columns, wheels of ship motifs and moldings). The mantel is built with an overmantel; in the center of which is placed an egg shaped cast iron plate bearing the coat of arms of an important official of the Louis XIV period.

Additional information
The coat of arms belongs to Charles-Maurice Le Tellier, son of Louvois the chancellor of Louis XIV. Azure, three lizards set in pal, three estoile or in fesse in chief. This shield is flanked on both sides by four rows of tufts, a characteristic element of a bishop’s biretta, and topped by a duke’s crown. Charles-Maurice Le Tellier, as archbishop of Reims, had the title of Duke and peer of France.
