Louis XV mantel (Reference 1330)
Beautiful Louis XV style 18th century mantel with asymmetrical decor. The straight and slightly curved jambs are Louis XIV in style, while the waving shelf, the lively decorated entablature shaped like a crossbow classifies this mantel as Louis XV in style. A superb acanthus leaf opening asymmetrically in a naturalistic way, sits at the center of the entablature encased in a cartouche of curves and counter curves. A subtle play of panels and moldings underline the bend of the hearth opening, and cut across the top of the jambs, creating a straight lined capital for the paneled jambs below. This mantel was carved in Royal Red marble, as is its marble front hearth floor. It is presented with its iron insert
