White marble Louis XVI style mantel (Reference 1343)
Mantel presenting the pure lines of the Louis XVI style carved in semi-statuary Carrara marble in the 19th century. The style borrowed many decorative motifs from Antiquity. The straight jambs are slightly tapered fluted pilasters with deep regular flutes, filleted below. The entablature presents a finely recessed molded rectangular frame and the heads are adorned with square rosettes in relief. Semi-statuary Carrara marble allows for a delicate quality of sculpture. The iron insert is delicately decorated with warrior trophies hanging from bows and ribbons.
