19th century Trumeau with landscape on paper (Reference 9450)
Carved oak trumeau with landscape drawing on paper in the Regence style from the 19th century. In an oval frame crowned by a shell and flanked with curlicue acanthus leaves, an unknown artist has represented in pencil a large very green landscape dominated by a fortified castle on a cliff with a few peasants going about their daily choirs. The lower part of the overmantel presents a mirror linked delicately to the oval frame by the curlicue acanthus leaves. The “pre-Rococo” effects of the curlicues and shells is counterbalanced by a number of straight moldings, in a way that is characteristic of the Regence style.
