Louis XIV style mantel in Red marble from the North (Reference 1373)
Elegant Louis XIV style red marble from the North mantel from the 19th century. Of overall rectangular shape as is the tradition of the Louis XIV style, the mantel is Bolection with an important rounded molding running across the entablature and down the legs, framed by a succession of discrete recessed grooves. The entablature is adorned with a fluted frieze, often found on mantels from the Louis XIV period which greatly influenced marble carvers in the 19th century because of their classical style. The Red marble from the North plays an important role in the decoration of the mantel with its powerful veins and coloring.
