stone - 17th century Florentine fireplace mantel

Mantel by Benedetto da Rovezzano (1490-1530) displayed in Florence, at the Bargello.

There are many similarities with our mantel.Its frieze is decorated with the same warrior emblems. The same motifs adorn the inside return of the legs. The faces of the sphinxes above the mantelpiece in the Florence fireplace mantel have the same peaceful features and expression as the women here.
