chasse-roue

A guard-stone is a small obstacle, either like a bollard or made of an arc of cast iron, placed at the corner of a building or gate posts to protect these parts from the wheeles of carriages and cars. They can be stone, metal, limestone of granite and often are superbly decorated. Called in French “chasse-roue” or “bouteroue”.
