This important mantel was made in the second half of the 19th century in a very beautiful statuary marble. It depicts a sculpted decoration, remarkable and abundant, particularity of the sumptuous taste under the Second Empire. Indeed, we find on the jambs with large scrolls, important acanthus leaves and a beautiful oak leaves crown of which the extremities seem to be held by scrolls projections. The entablature, which supports a slab with very worked and curved edges, also presents a sumptuous decoration. Thus, we find on it a central medallion in which we can read the monogram 'MCS" framed by an important crown of laurel leaves from which is escaping a ribbon running toward the extremities. This decoration is also underlined by a thick oblong moulding, evolutive stylistic characteristic of the French mantels.
This fireplace is sold with its original cast iron insert but without any marble floor. This one could be made to order.
