Beautifully carved large imposing Cherry red marble fireplace mantel in a Louis XV style from the 19th century. The hearth opening is carved in the shape of a crossbow, allowing for very decorative curves. The center of the frieze presents an elegant shell motif, which is repeated on the canted jambs.
This marble is a red, called "griotte", it took its name from the famous cherry with this special color. Griotte was the marble of preference of the royal apartments of the 18th century.
