This magnificent Napoleon III style fireplace was made in the 19th century. Borrowing some elements in the Louis XV style , the design of this exceptional piece reveals the original work of a talented artist. The white marble of Carrara indeed allows this fireplace to be worked like a sculpture.
The legs are adorned with sculpted caryatids, whose fineness of execution allows to look at a profusion of details under each angle. The bodies have beautiful volumes and a remarkable smoothness.
The entablature is decorated with a beautiful shell that keeps two flowers in its hollow. The petals and curves of the shell are carved with beautiful reliefs. The entablature is indeed strewn with flowers in bud or blooming even in the hair of the caryatids, and their work in low and high relief brings an additional aesthetic subtlety.
The feet are finally adorned with a beautiful acanthus leaf, and the sides of the fireplace are very curved, and paneled of an elegant central medallion.
Finally, the cast iron interior is adorned with allegories of the Dawn and the Night.
This fireplace is sold with its original cast iron insert but without any marble floor. This one could be made to order.
