Pair of chinese vase, gilt-decorated on a blue-ground with french bronze-mounted.
This kind of work of art were very fashionable in the 18th century. It was the 'marchands merciers' (type of artwork merchant). They created for their wealthiest clients extravagant ormulu-mounted chinese vase. The bronze enhanced the oriental porcelain.
Each vase is decorated with peony flowers, a red and a black dragons in pursuit of a flaming pearl, symbol of immortality.
An high-relief Chi dragon is surrounding the neck.
