Exceptional Riffle Cabinet Buffet, composed of two parts. The upper part opening with a central glass panel enclosed between two detached columns. The lower part opening with two drawers, two pulling shelves and two panels. On each sides, an alcove.
This cabinet is made made of oak, with a rich carved, molded and tinted ornamentation. Alcoves decorated with removable ronde bosse sculptures of dogs holding in their mouths partridges. Entablement decorated with medallion of Diana topped by her quiver and arrows enclosed between wild boars hunting trophies.
The central part enclosed with consoles. The lower part decorated with oak leaves and hunting trophies.

Numeraled PE
Stamped P. MURGUE

This Riffle Cabinet can be compared to Napoleon III's Cabinet he had in his antechamber at the Palace of St. Cloud. The Emperor bought it from the cabinet maker Jeanselme, at the Universal Exposition of 1855, for the colossal amount of 13,500 Francs.
Unfortunately, this work of art disappeared during the fire of 1870. This testimony has reached us through a picture taken by Pierre-Ambroise Richebourg photographer (1810-1875) - see detail.
Our model with 3.02 meters (118'' 7/8) is slightly smaller than the original, which was 3.50 meters (137'' 13/16). He was also flanked by pointers.
