Style Napoleon III / Ref.11028

Pair of Napoleon III style chenets, in gilded bronze, signed Henri Vian

This pair of Napoleon III style chenets was made in the second half of the 19th century. In gilded bronze, decorated with acanthus leaves, they are signed by Henri Vian (1858-1904).
Henri Vian, bronze maker, realizes many interior decoration of high quality: chimneys, vases with bronze mount, chandeliers, balustrades ... The company is installed at 5 rue de Thorigny, in full heart from the Marais district (3rd arrondissement) of Paris, in the Salé hotel built in the 18th century which became the Picasso Museum in the 20th century : "A new tenant came along. Henri Vian, master bronzier and ironworker of art, who like many others wanted to install in his old hotel in the Marais his workshop and his showrooms. Vian added woodwork, fireplaces, modified the character of the upper vestibule, created a small salon in the broken council room, but he kept many old elements in place. ".
Henri Vian participatesat the World's Fairs of 1878 and 1889 where he obtains the gold medal of the class "Bronzes of art, various art cast iron, ironwork of art" and 1900 as protractor of the jury of the same class. He was appointed August 14, 1900 to the rank of knight of the Legion of Honor.
