This period mantel is characteristic of Louis XV creations. Both large and thin, this very elegant mantel is composed of canted slightly console jambs and a curved entablature. The center of the frieze is adorned with a symmetrical palmette with finely carved leaves. Set on high end blocks, the jambs are delicately carved with panels.
This marble is similar to those from Mayenne, particularly a Silver Breche variety. Indeed the marbles from this region are characterized by dark hues (from light gray to black) with a fine grain speckled with more of less red, rose or ivory veins.
Here the dark green gray hue is speckled with pale orange pink flames.
