The “Three Shell” model mantel is a classic of the Louis XV and Rococo styles. The composition remains symmetrical but here movement already plays an important part. The canted jambs work remarkably well with the curves and counter curve design. The scrolled heads bear upside down shells, which the center front shell echoes - thus the name of the mantel. The entablature is generously curved and underlined by a baguette molding that runs down from both sides of the central shell to the plinths. The jambs are molded and slightly curved. Marble carvers endlessly played with this model, creating a profusion of variations.
Is a perfect pair of item #1628.
