This antique mantel follows the Capucine model with two straight jambs supporting a plain entablature. A molded and slightly beveled frame defines the hearth opening. The jambs are adorned with filleted flutes, which is a typical Louis XVI stylistic element. The sober and straight lines are inspired by Antiquity, which became very stylish during the Louis XVI period. The originality of this mantel rests in its marble. It is carved in white Sarravezza marble veined with grey and black streaks. Such veining creates an optical illusion of movement, which gives much character to this mantel.
