This Louis XV style mantel was made of Carrara marble in the late 19th century.
Its sinuous lines and its Rococo decoration are typical of the Louis XV style. Indeed, we can see, on the center of the serpentine entablature, a very beautifully sculpted shell framed by acanthus leaves. The sculptor shows through this motif all his know-how by realizing a shell extremely detailed of which the marked veins create a texture effect. This central motif is underlined by an oblong moulding that keeps going along the jambs. These latters, following the curved move are adorned with scrolls and shells on the upper part and acanthus leaves on the lower parts.
This fireplace is sold with a modern cast iron insert adapted to this fireplace but without any marble floor. This one could be made to order (please ask for marble availability).
