Origin:
19th century
Louis XV mantel in Carrara marble with lines and an ornamentation repertoire that are typical of the Louis XV style: contoured frieze, scrolled console jambs, palm frond and carved panel on the entablature. However everything here has been redesigned according to the taste and fashion of the Second Empire in a spirit of opulence and extreme refinement. Indeed volutes of leaves and arabesques cover the surfaces; the satin smooth quality of marble is used to the full. The sculptural treatment of the ornamentation and refinement of the craftsmanship is possible only because the marble used is Carrara, the most lavish of all statuary marbles.
