This Louis XVI–style fireplace was crafted in Carrara marble, a material prized for its whiteness lightly veined with grey. Its light tone enhances the richness of the carved decoration.
The overall form consists of a rectilinear entablature topped by a projecting shelf. It rests on two curved console-shaped jambs, themselves set against simple side panels enlivened by moulded framing. A marble hearth slab completes the ensemble.
The sculptural ornamentation is particularly elaborate. The frieze of the entablature is adorned with a band of flowering scrolls, alternating between large open blossoms, wheat ears, leaves and fruits. The composition is centred on a tied bouquet, reinforcing the decorative balance. At the extremities, carved rosettes occupy the blocks of the jambs. The consoles feature a vertical motif of suspended vegetal garlands, accompanied by ribbons, fruits and flowers, ending in a coiled base.
This fireplace is sold with a modern cast iron insert adapted to this fireplace and with its marble floor which is broken but will be restored in our workshop.
