Beautiful and rare Napoleon III style fireplace made in the second half of the 19th century out of Belgium black marble and Boulle marquetry.
This marquetry technique, very decorative, allows a rich polychrome decor. Born in the 17th century under king Louis XIV, this technique is named after the famous cabinetmaker André Charles Boulle, who extensively used it in the decoration of furniture.
The Boulle marquetry is a tortoiseshell veneer combined with engraved copper or brass decor.
On this fireplace, this marquetry allows a foliage and interlacing decor that dominates the entire frieze and jambs.
This fireplace comes with an antique cast iron insert (adapted to the fireplace). The marble floor could be made to order.
