Very rare "Cipolin" marble mantel

This elegant Louis XV style mantel is from the 19th century. The ornaments that adorn the entablature and jambs are enhanced by the generous curves of the mantel. The jambs are scrolled and decorated with panels. A beautiful asymmetrical delicately carved shell, central figure of the Rococo style, dominates the frieze; dark green marble veins underline the sculpture.
The marble is Cipolin antique from Greece. Very rare, this marble was extracted from Euboea island, in quarries that are now closed. Characterised by a palette of green and ivory colors, set in layers, which creates a playful repertoire of watery motifs. The veins of the marble on the sides have a very geometrical motif, similar to malachite.
The name of the marble is engraved in the back of the mantel.
