Style Napoleon III / Ref.14979

A lot of approximately 20.5 m² of Napoleon III-era oak parquet flooring, featuring panels with an interlaced pattern accented by black lines, and a trompe-l’œil border

This solid oak parquet floor is made up of square panels and a surrounding border.

Each panel is enclosed in a frame of oak boards joined at right angles. The centre features two double bands laid diagonally, which cross and interlace, one passing alternately over and under the other. Each band is outlined with a thin fillet of dark wood that emphasises the crossing pattern. The four remaining triangles are filled with oak laid in different grain directions, so that the light plays across the surface of the panel.

The border is decorated with light and dark oak lozenges arranged to create a trompe-l’œil relief effect. It is edged with dark fillets that match the decoration of the panels. Its ends are cut at an angle to form the corners of the room.

This type of parquet, with its geometric design and contrasting fillets, was popular during the Second Empire for the salons of private mansions and large apartments.
