Copper, wood and bronze elevator cab designed in the late 19th century to look like a Louis XV sedan chair. The lift opens in the front with a double door. Slightly inclined towards the back, the lines of the cab are curved. The posts are adorned with foliage and flowers, and Rococo decorative motifs. The arched front is topped with an asymmetrical blazon.
The bronze fixtures on both side of the cabin were used to direct its movement along two axes.
The inside is entirely upholstered and covered with fabric. Complete with a small comfortable bench like in a sedan chair.
This elevator cab was made for use with hydraulic cylinders. The hydraulic elevator was invented in 1864 by French engineer, Léon Edoux, and the first hydraulic cylinder lift was presented at the World’s Fair of 1867.
