In the 19th century, stained glass left the church giving way to civil and historical stained glass, geometrical stained glass designs, Medieval, Neo-Renaissance and Troubadour stained glass. Later Art nouveau and Art Deco pursued the trend and 20th century artists discovered the power of light shining through colored glass.
