The curved generous lines of this mantel, with its wealth of detailed carvings and canted jambs, recall in an unmistakable way the shapes inherited from the Louis XV style. The jambs are adorned with filleted fluting below and rise to scrolled modillions. They are crowned by scrolled heads garnished with upside down shells. The entablature is lushly decorated with an upside down shell and foliage enhanced with flowers. A shelf, which curves to follow the lines of the mantel, completes this elegant composition. The cast iron original insert is slightly curved and adorned with a latticework décor spotted with flowers.
