Origin:
France 1860
Rare cast iron door dating from the 1860’s, when this material came back in style. The door is characteristic of the Neo-Gothic style of the period. Indeed, the pointed arch shape and tracery with trefoil and quatrefoil are typical of Middle Age architecture. Because of the references to cathedral ornamentation the style is called “à la cathédrale”. The lower part of the door is adorned with a cast iron wreath of fruit and flowers surrounding an hourglass.
