Description

This statuary marble mantel combines all the characteristics of the Empire style: the purity of straight lines, hieratic and architectural forms. The jambs are composed of two parts, one made of columns and foliage capitals sculpted in the round, the other, of pilasters - all highly architectural elements. The columns support an entablature delicately carved with foliage and stylized flowers, toped by a cornice with dentils. This mantel presents a pure and simple expression of the Antique style very popular in the Empire period.
