This fireplace mantel uses the traditional Capucine model: two straight jambs, with a small capital on top and end blocks below, supporting a plain entablature. A small molded frame surrounds the hearth enlightening this simple model with a touch of decoration. The marble used, with its unusual effects of color, is Red Levanto, which was very appreciated in the second half of the 19th century. This Breche type marble although predominantly red can equally be more or less green. The quarry is in Italy, south of Genoa.
