This exceptionally large mantel is a remarkable example of Louis XV style as it was reinterpreted in the 18th century.
By its size and sobriety this mantel stands out. A beautiful palm leaf central feature adorns the frieze; the gently canted jambs have a delicate curve.
The marble is a warm and brightly polished Ardennes gray (Gris des Ardennes). In the second half of the 18th century this marble was especially appreciated because of its elegance and the refinement of its veins.
