Empire style fireplace mantel from the 19th century with moulded shelf on breakfronted entablature resting between two console-like deeply scrolled jambs. The warm hues of this marble are enhanced by this powerfully simple design.
Saint-Jean fleuri marble comes from the Aude region in France. A mixture of dark grey brown and black hues against a white and reddish base. The quarries opened in 1889 and are still active today.
