Summer theme cast iron fireback (Reference 9421)
Elegant cast iron fireback from the late 18th century. A succession of frames - ribboned, pearled and of wisps of wheat - surround the symbols of Summer. In the center of the composition, an oval vase shape underlined by moldings and volutes is decorated with an elongated sunflower circled with pearls. On either side, striped cornucopia, joined at the base by an acanthus shaped clamp are brimming with fruits, such as grapes, apples etc… The craftmanship here renders the differences of materials or textures of the fruit, horns and foliage.
