A cast iron hearth is a type of antique fireplace insert. The hearth is made of cast iron with an inner part composed up of three cast iron elements.

A fire back covers the bottom of the hearth that is also bounded on the sides by two iron plates.

The insert joins with the fireplace mantel which is usually made out of marble.

The cast iron fireplaces support an elaborately carved decoration, often featuring figures. Thus on them we find themes such as "The Rape of Europe," "Tea" Chinoiserie scene based on a painting by Boucher, or "Venus and Cupid stung by a bee".These figurative scenes are framed by foliage, plant material and flowers making up the beauty of the cast iron hearth.
