This Egyptian style garniture was made in the late 19th century. It is composed of a clock from the Parisian house Domange Rollin, and two matching vases, the whole being made out of Belgium black marble and Red Griotte marble.
The clock is surmounted by a bust of Cleopatra bearing the Nemes, crown adorned of the cobra god protecting the sovereign, and the vases are decorated with wings of Isis. On the dial, imaginary numbers are inspired by ancient Arabic numbers. We recognize our usual numbers 1 and 2, while the numbers 3, 4, 9 and 10 are invented, and the others are composed like Roman numerals (i.e. 5 = 2 + 3).

Rollin succeeded Domange at the head of the Parisian clockmaker's house. First in the Rue de la Corderie in the years 1840-1850, it moved to 55 rue de Bretagne around 1860, which corresponds to the period of realization of this set.
