This exceptional Regence style fireplace was made in the 19th century out of a beautiful piece of Violet Breccia marble. This type of marble is extracted from the town of Serravezza, near from the Carrara region in Italy. It is a very heterogeneous marble made up of hues going from white to dark violet, whilst passing through shades of pink, all combined together with a violet coloured cement.
The large dimensions of this fireplace are inherited from the Louis XIV style, softened in this Regency style by the curved shapes of the frame, the shelf and the console jambs. The jambs are fluted and decorated with beautiful curvy shells and fine little bellflowers. The centre of the entablature is ornamented with a large reversed shell from which acanthus leaves come out. The details are carved with care including the side panels, the moldings of the shelf or the bolection of the frame.
This fireplace comes with an antique cast iron insert adapted to this fireplace but without any marble floor. This one could be made to order (ask us for marble availability).
