This superb antique Louis XVI style fireplace was made during the 19th century out of Carrare semi-Statuaire marble. Originally from a hotel in Bordeaux, in the south of France, this fireplace has a carve decor that is both simple and elaborate. The jambs are decorated with fluted and filleted half-columns, which are decorated with asparagus heads and topped with ionic capitals. The capitals are emphasised with a fine line of pearls joined together, and which give birth to a garland of fleshy fruits. The entablature of the fireplace is the result of a particularly fine quality of carving. A frieze of foliage and flowers runs along the entablature.
This fireplace is sold without any fireplace insert nor marble floor but they could be made to order.
