Rare Neo-Renaissance style mantel carved in oak during the 19th century. Below, the jambs are adorned with fluting that rises to a curlicue element. The heads are occupied by Conquistador style busts of men, who arms crossed, are sheathed. The sheaths are carved with a vertical guilloche pattern filled with rosettes. The frieze of the entablature bears a framed display of interlacing bay leaves and ribbons. The elliptical ovolo are unusually elongated and wavy ; acanthus leaves top the heads and jambs, while a projecting shelf crowns the composition.
